Th end of June definitely did not go as planned. Sunday, June 24th – my grandfather passed away in a hospital in Fort Worth, Texas. Before I knew it, I was on a plane heading south.
Normally when I travel, I have some time to do a little research on food options at my destination and I also set aside some allergy friendly snacks to bring along. This time – I didn’t have time for any of that. {This is when I sing Yelp’s praises}. Thanks to Yelp, I always find great local spots in the areas I’m visiting – with ease.
Breakfast is the most important meal of the day – so they say. But it’s also my most FAVORITE meal of the day. The second day I was in Fort Worth, I hopped on Yelp and found Local Foods Kitchen.
Local Foods Kitchen
Local Foods Kitchen is exactly that – a restaurant that uses locally sourced foods to create beautiful and tasty dishes. They have breakfast, lunch and dinner. They make smoothies for those who prefer a more earthy/organic sweet fix OR they have some amazing baked goods. And yes, they are VERY allergy friendly – (for dairy and gluten at least). One thing they didn’t have were vegan options. But that’s okay – there are plenty of gluten-free people that will appreciate these cookies and muffins!
Gluten-Free cookies!
My uncle has Celiac disease and was able to choose from a wide-variety of pastries. He was feeling really spoiled that morning.
For breakfast, I ordered a black coffee with chicken apple sausage, two over-easy eggs, avocado (obviously) and a side of fresh fruit. I CANNOT begin to tell you how fresh this fruit was. It was absolutely amazing.
It was a really emotional week for me. I didn’t get much sleep and I didn’t eat very much either. Stepping into Local Foods Kitchen was really refreshing. It has a really rustic and earthy feel to it. They have so many options to choose from no matter what kind of “food mood” you are in. I was really grateful for how kind the staff was – especially working with both of my allergies. The woman who took my order and brought me my food was so friendly and took the time to chat with me and welcome me to the area. I wish I could remember her name but she is blonde, beautiful and radiated positivity. Positivity was definitely needed that day.
Thank you to Local Foods Kitchen for your hospitality. Next time I’m in Fort Worth (and hopefully under better circumstances), I will be back.
