Why I Don’t Use MTHFR Testing in My Practice

This post discusses MTHFR gene polymorphisms, their limited clinical significance, and factors contributing to folate and vitamin B12 deficiencies. FAQs

What is a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN)?

An RDN is a credentialed medical provider required to complete a bachelor’s degree (4 years) in nutrition and dietetics, a master’s degree (~ 2 years) and 1200 hours of supervised practice (similar to a residency). Once complete, the candidate must pass a board exam to become registered. In many states, licensure is required. Dietitians are trained in anatomy and physiology, biochemistry, food safety/food science, medical nutrition therapy (nutrition and disease states), sports nutrition (optional) and nutrition interactions with medications.

Do you take insurance?

Yes! Dietitians are able to take insurance! Check out the Use Your Insurance page. Crystal is currently accepts UHC, Blue Cross, Cigna and Aetna. Cash-pay options are available for sessions that might not be covered by insurance.

What commitment is required?

That is up to you! Before booking an appointment or purchasing a package, take some time to determine exactly what you want to get out of it. The tiered nutrition packages are more involved and might require more of a time commitment due to check-ins and evaluations.

What results can I expect from the process?

Before our first session, you will have some forms to fill out. This will include an evaluation form to help me learn a little bit about you. The more detailed the better. This will help guide our conversations and develop the path going forward. The rest is unique to each client.

How much does the coaching cost?

See the Nutrition Services page.

Do you just send me a meal plan?

Absolutely not. There is much more involved in creating new habits, learning about yourself and building a sustainable lifestyle.

Do you only talk about nutrition in your sessions?

Nutrition can have a huge impact on overall health. Especially if you are working through a recent diagnosis where nutrition can play a key role. Nutrition is not meant to replace medication, but it can help! During our sessions, we cover many other important lifestyle factors such as movement/exercise, sleep and stress.
