Mike and I love to eat. That is no secret. We do most of our dining out on the weekend – and WE do some experimental cooking on the weekends too! I feel like we had two culinary experiences in one day. Eating is literally the best. I love trying new food. Experimenting with ingredients and different products to create something wonderful. It’s pretty rewarding, especially when you are COMPLETELY changing some of the most staple dishes to make them allergy-friendly.
We went to Earthfare this weekend because I decided that I wanted to make home-made pizza! I found some of the most amazing allergy-friendly products to make my pizza. Some that I have not shared on here yet – so, here you go!
Liberated Specialty Foods – Pizza Crust – Beyond Paleo
I found this one in the frozen section at EarthFare for about $12.00. One of the first things that I do when looking at a new product is look at the ingredients, carbohydrates, sugar and fiber. I was so impressed by the fiber content in this product. The ingredients are clean, simple and very few. It’s grain free, milk free, and soy free. The pizza crust is paleo approved! Yes, they are high in calories (420 calories per crust), but look at all the protein (23 grams). What’s nice about this is that you don’t have to put too many toppings on it. I didn’t have to add too much and I was very satisfied after eating it. I didn’t feel full like on thanksgiving but I felt satisfied.
Here’s what I put on top:
Miyoko’s Fresh Vegan Mozz
I am absolutely OBSESSED with this “cheese.” First amazing detail – IT’S NOT SOY BASED. They used organic cashews, coconut oil and tapioca. I love this vegan cheese. It did really well in the oven when cooking the pizza. It doesn’t melt, but softens in place. Be careful not to put it close to the burner, it will brown.
Fiorucci Uncured Pepperoni
I do not prefer cured meat. I don’t like processed deli meats, pepperoni or cured bacon. This was a pretty good pepperoni. No dairy or gluten. I only put a little bit of this on the pizza because I didn’t want to add too much fat and calories.
Fresh Basil
Organic Pizza Sauce
The pizza turned out great. The crust is more like a cookie. It’s not fluffy – after all, the flour is almond flour. It is very hearty, earthy and whole. I highly recommend it, especially if you have allergies to gluten, dairy (milk products), and soy. Avoid if you have a tree nut allergy.

Arepa Culture
100% Gluten-Free Arepa’s
Let me start off by saying that this is probably my favorite food truck {aside from the 13th Taco hehe}. Mike and I were at a local bar called House of Hops. They have a food truck every weekend and periodically throughout the week. I have been wanting to try an arepa for a long time. The menu is VERY CLEAR. The arepa’s are made with corn and are gluten-free, they have vegetarian options, and they can leave off any dairy off their menu items. Here’s what I had:
The one on the left is the La Surena (BBQ pork with pico de gallo) and the La Tica (shredded chicken with avocado instead of cheese, onions and bell pepper) with a glass of Pinot Grigio.
They happen to be the two most popular and for good reason. This was just the most amazing thing I’ve had in a long time. I am just so happy that I was able to eat these. I never thought something like this would be allergy-friendly! Arepa Culture made my day. My pup Sunny was extremely tempted the whole time to eat my food. When we come here, we always sit at the bar and he stays right in my lap.
I just want to say a huge thank you to all of these companies and to Arepa Culture for offering products that appeal to food preferences and to food allergies. Your products are wonderful which is why I feel the need to share my experience!
