Fiber has many well-established benefits. But the way it’s incorporated into the diet may need to look different depending on a person’s digestive health and individual tolerance.
When the digestive tract is under stress, when there is active inflammation, or even when certain infections are present, the bulk and volume that insoluble fiber provides can worsen symptoms and in some cases create real medical risk.
