In light of all the craziness going on with covid-19 (aka coronavirus) I thought it would be super fun to talk about how important vitamins are – more specifically, ZINC.
Remember when you were younger and your parents made you take the Flinstone’s vitamins? (which by the way were SO GROSS) Well, there is truth to how important vitamins and micronutrients are to your health. They are vital to your immune system and keeping your body functioning at its best.
Zinc
I’ve mentioned before that I take a 50mg Zinc tablet EVERY DAY – especially before and after my surgery.
Why?
For starters, up to 30% of people have a zinc deficiency – meaning, they aren’t consuming enough zinc containing foods. It also is great for your immune system and for healing!
Facts about Zinc:
- Zinc has been shown to be an anti-viral.
- Infants, children, adolescents, pregnant and lactating women need more zinc that averages adults.
- Zinc deficiencies can lead to a weak immune system, poor cognitive function and delayed wound healing.
- Zinc can delay the replication of some viruses in the body.
- Zinc can help with diarrhea
- Take your Zinc tablet with food or you’ll feel nauseous
Foods High in Zinc

Sunwarrior Liquid Vitamin Mineral Rush

I have been supplementing Zinc two ways – tablet form 50mg and the Sunwarrior Liquid Vitamin Mineral Rush

This contains NOT ONLY Zinc, but many other nutrients that the majority of the population are lacking in their diet. I recently ordered this product and love it because of how convenient it is. You can put it in ice water or a smoothie. It is slightly sweetened with stevia but otherwise has no taste. As always with Sunwarrior the product is vegan. It also has no gluten. I highly recommend this product.
If you are interested in purchasing it, visit https://sunwarrior.com/collections/all/products/us-vmr-236-5-ml-8-fl-oz and use my code cdee1 at checkout for 20% your entire order. Even you if you buy more than this, you’ll get 20% off.
Just a quick disclaimer – I am not a doctor or a registered dietitian. I am in no way saying that Zinc will prevent you from contracting or being effected by the coronavirus. I’m only sharing some interesting facts about how important Zinc is to your body and why it is important to make sure you have this in your diet.
