I love salmon. Raw salmon. And if it’s cooked, it better be close to raw. There are so many good things about fish from a nutritional stand-point but when it comes to taste? You just can’t go wrong. Unless you’re not a fish person, then maybe you can.
For about a year now, I had been seeing these amazing pictures on Instagram of sushi burritos. They were mainly from hot-spots on the west coast. That kind of thing just didn’t exist here in North Carolina.
Enter ZenFish…..
So they originally opened up in Durham but recently opened a location in Morrisville. Mike and I decided to pop in and try it out.

Quality
Most of their menu is gluten-free, dairy-free and they have a ton of vegetarian options. You are able to make a custom burrito or bowl and they also have house-made options to choose from. The produce is locally sourced from areas in North Carolina and they also have locally brewed kombucha, beer and cider on tap. The food restrictions/food preferences are clearly labeled on the menu above the food bar.
You can definitely taste the quality of the food – and when you walk in, you can really feel the quality of the company’s culture.
I saw this chalkboard mural at the entry way and I just love it. Below is an excerpt from their website:
At ZenFish Poké Bar, we are committed to serving really good food to our customers in the Triangle community. And when we say good, we mean our ingredients are sourced from local farmers as much as possible, and everything we use is compostable – so you can feel great about what you’re eating.
That’s why our motto is “Do Good, Eat Well.”

Customer Service
The staff was warm and welcoming when we walked in. There was a line and they somehow were able to balance the hustle with still maintaining the quality of service. They gave some great suggestions on how we could make our food choices taste the absolute best. Kudos to the ladies working tonight! Great job!
Price
When you go to a place that has fresh ingredients with a short “shelf-life,” you can expect to pay a little more than what you would at your average quick-bite restaurant. I ordered a burrito + avocado ($1 charge) and Mike ordered a large “Courageous” bowl. All for about $27.00. We both kind of went a little “large and in charge,” so it of course made the price a little high.
You get a great portion of food for the price, but you definitely won’t be feeling like you just ate two Thanksgiving dinners.
Taste
I can’t speak for Mike’s bowl, but my burrito was to DIE FOR. One thing that really stuck out to me was the option for truffle ponzu sauce (gluten-free, btw). Never have I ever!!!!!!! It was the most amazing flavor to add to an over-sized sushi roll. I wish I could describe it to you. I guess you’ll have to try it for yourself. I, of course, also had to add a side of spicy kimchi 😉 {I’m all about the fermented noms}
It was a great experience. I really loved the food. The front of the house {& and back of the house} was clean and they had really cool tables.
If you are into fresh ingredients, supporting local business and POKE – this is the place for you. There are locations in downtown Durham and Morrisville.
After finally trying a sushi burrito after a year of waiting…I want to hug the person who brought the concept to Raleigh-Durham.
If you make your way to ZenFish, tell me about your experience!!!
Enjoy and thanks for reading x
